Clinical Institute of Chemistry
is a professional, scientific and teaching unit of Sestre milosrdnice University
Hospital, its basic activities being medical laboratory diagnosis in the
fields of medical biochemistry, laboratory hematology and immunology, pharmacologic
toxicologic analysis, emergency laboratory diagnosis, molecular diagnosis
of hereditary metabolic diseases, and pharmacogenetics. Diagnostic procedures
are performed according to the needs and in compliance with modern medicine
for all departments and institutes of the Sestre milosrdnice University
Hospital and other health care and scientific facilities in Croatia, in
the organization and under supervision of renowned laboratory authorities.
The program of laboratory activities covers more than 200 different
tests of blood, cerebrospinal fluid, urine and other biological fluids.
The tests are performed by use of latest methods and technology on sophisticated
instruments in line with the Good Laboratory Practice requirement (a document
issued by the Croatian Chamber of Medical Biochemists). Diagnostic procedures
carried out at the Institute mostly cover the needs of high differentiated
medical diagnosis and treatment and as such require properly trained professionals
and rich experience.
In addition to its basic activities, the Institute is a teaching unit
of the Zagreb University School of Medicine and School of Pharmacy and
Biochemistry, and as such it is engaged in both undergraduate and postgraduate
education of the respective students as well as of all levels of health
care professionals. Scientific activities, isolated or in collaboration
with clinical professions, permeate all professional work of the Institute,
distinguishing it in the Croatian and international scientific bibliography.
According to the decision issued by the Ministry of Health of the Republic
of Croatia on February 8, 2000, Clinical Institute of Chemistry, Sestre
milosrdnice University Hospital has been appointed the Ministry of Health
Reference Center for Emergency Medical Biochemistry Diagnosis.
