University Department of Neurology is
working in accordance with modern trends in neurology. Using multidisciplinary
approach in solving neurological disorders the Department annually treats
on average 2750 in-patients, 13.500 out-patients and makes approximately
22.000 diagnostic tests in diagnostic laboratories. Modern treatment of
patients with cerebrovascular diseases, epilepsy, headache, other pain
syndromes, CNS tumors, extrapiramidal diseases, demyelinization diseases,
spinal diseases, dementias and neurodegenerative disorders is performed
in Department every day practice.
Supreme ultrasound Doppler diagnostics, performed in more than 12.000
patients annually, enables early detection of vascular disorders in extra-
and intra-cranial parts of cerebral circulation in order to administer
preventive procedures. Department of neurovascular Doppler diagnostics
is the only one in Croatia completely equipped for thorough neurovascular
diagnostics enabling detection of cerebral emboli. It is also the only
center in Croatia for cerebrovascular Doppler ultrasound education and
the Referent Center for Neurovascular Disorders of Ministry of Health of
Croatia.
In the Department of electrophysiology modern electrodiagnostic procedures
are performed in more than 8.500 patients including detection of cognitive
function disorders using evoked potentials.
At present the University Department of Neurology is performing research
of evoked cerebral responses using TCD and brain-mapping as a part of scientific
projects. These procedures enable functional and topical location of disorders
and assessment of cerebral vasomotor reactivity that are supposed to enter
clinical practice in future.
University Department of Neurology is involved in international scientific
projects as well as in the exchange of knowledge, experience and experts
with other departments of neurology in Croatia and abroad, making University
Department of Neurology a modern department and a partner in developing
knowledge in neuroscience and clinical neurology.
